The Foundation

One of the primary ways that alumni can support BCC is by giving to the BCC Foundation. Donations are used to support student scholarships, faculty and staff training , and new technology and equipment. A number of alums have found it very rewarding to help out in this way:

Floyd ('57) and Connie Kintner have supported BCC for many years, but they still wanted to do something more. Recently, they established an endowed fund with the Foundation to insure perpetual support, providing yearly scholarships to BCC students in one of the Technologies, Engineering or Computing programs. "Our family has gotten so much from BCC over the years, we wanted to do something that would go on forever. We plan to add to this fund every year to increase the help it provides BCC students," Floyd said.

Thinking about their own good start at Broome, Brian ('60) and Margey Mather decided to establish a scholarship at BCC. As the successful owner of the local State Farm Insurance office, their generous annual gift will fund the scholarship while State Farm's Matching gift will build an endowment fund.

Because of their own challenges putting Brian through school as a young married couple, the Brian K. and Margery Mather Scholarship will help a married student who can demonstrate both academic excellence and good citizenship through campus or community service. The scholarship is intended to help make the second year at BCC a little easier.

Alumni Career Network
Alumni are also needed to serve as career mentors for students thinking about various job possibilities. If you would be willing to answer some basic questions about your career and communicate electronically with a student trying to find out more about your job, please click here. We are trying to set up an alumni web site where students can see what alumni are doing and contact them for more information.
If you are a woman in a non-traditional career (especially, engineering technologies, computer specialities or communication in media arts), we would especially like to hear from you. We are in the midst of a special project with BCC Career and Placement Services to build a web site for women in non-traditional careers. We ask you to just fill out a short survey about your job and we'll add you to our list of women who are working in careers traditionally dominated by men. Women thinking of entering one of those careers would then see your name in the listing and be able to e-mail you with any questions. What great encouragement and genuine insight you could provide to a woman trying to enter a male-dominated field!
Other Volunteer Opportunities
There are many events and sevice projects where extra hands are helpful. Providing doughnuts and directions for students on the first day of classes, helping organize events for other alumni, serving as a liaison for your business to help place students in internship or service learning positions, or contacting classmates to tell them of an upcoming event are all ways to give back to BCC.

Contact the Alumni Association or the Director of Alumni Affairs if you would like to be involved with BCC in this way.
