Vocabulary: Linear Growth, exponential growth, and repeated doublings.
Assignment: Read section 8A pages 462-468 Do exercises 1,2,3,4,9,13,17
Notes:
1. Linear growth occurs when a quantity grows by the same amount
in each unit of time.
2. Exponential growth occurs when a quantity grows by the same percentage
in each unit of time.
3. Exponential growth can be thought of as repeated doublings.
4. When exponential growth occurs, the amount of time it takes for
the growth to reach large proportions is relatively short.
Skills you need to master in this section:
1. Identify relationships as linear or exponential.
2. Understand and use exponential relationships to calculate
various quantities.
