BCC President Today Announced College Is Seeking Request’s For
Proposals For Design Of New Communications & Technology Building

-Design Phase Will Take One Year With Groundbreaking In Summer Of 2008-

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced the College is requesting proposals from all interested and qualified professional architectural/engineering firms for the design on the new Communications and Technology Building.

“We are ready to move forward now that we have secured county and state funding for the overwhelming majority of phase-one of the project,” said BCC President Dr. Spraggs. “The Communications and Technology Building is important not only for the growth and development of the College but will have a significant financial and economic impact on the overall region by attracting and retaining young professionals and training them in cutting edge digital technologies, which will lead to job creation and workforce opportunities. We are very excited about bringing this project to fruition.”

The Scope-of-Work will include the research, investigations, studies, reports, design, design documents, construction drawings and specifications, bidding documents, coordination and review, permitting, approvals and representation as may be required. The design phase will begin immediately and take approximately one year to complete. The College anticipates breaking ground on construction of the $24 million dollar project by summer 2008. The expected completion date is 2010.

“We are literally out of space at the College, which limits our ability to offer new academic programs and renovate existing facilities,” continued Dr. Spraggs. “A new academic building will allow the College to renovate existing buildings without disrupting ongoing classes. Our new Master Plan will also provide direction for renovating existing facilities and the Communications and Technology Building will facilitate that process.”

It is the intent of Broome Community College to select no less than three (3) qualified professional consulting firms for the purpose of a more detailed, in-depth evaluation of qualifications. Firms may be asked to submit a proposal for the planned scope of work briefly outlined above. The criteria that will be used for selecting a consultant will be based on Broome Community College’s consultant procurement procedures and will include an assessment in the following areas: Specialized Experience (to include but not limited to designs for Music and Art studios and presentation space, Academic Media and Communications requirements, photography and imaging, acting, dance, computer applications, education, SUCF, DASNY & LEED Certification), Capacity and Capability of the firm/team to perform the work, Past Performance, Rates for Services, and Familiarity with the Community College environment and the areas served by Broome Community College.

All work must be performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Architect/Engineer licensed to practice in New York State.

Interested firms must respond by sending five (5) copies of their Expression-of-Interest to Broome Community College Purchasing, ATTENTION: John Hastie, Campus Services Building, BCC, PO Box 1017, Binghamton, NY 13902 or 907 Front Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.

All responses must include GSA Form 330, Architect-Engineer Qualifications. If complete services are not available within one firm, it will also be necessary to include the above requested information for each proposed subcontracted firm.

All responses must be received by Broome Community College Purchasing Department no later than 4:00 p.m., February 9, 2007 to be considered. The ad will appear in the Press & Sun Bulleting starting on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.
