Broome Community College To
Host Spring Student Convocation Tuesday

-Convocation Brings Together Faculty, Staff & Students Around Common Theme-

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced the schedule of events for the spring 2007 student Convocation, which will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2007 on campus.

The Keynote Presentation will be made by Dr. Daniel Drezner on Power Politics in the Era of Globalization. Dr Spraggs will introduce Dr. Drezner. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the West Gymnasium. A question and answer with Dr. Drezner will also take place from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in Titchener Hall, Room 102.

“Convocation Day is one of the most important events of the year here at BCC,” said Dr. Spraggs. “Convocation Day provides us with an occasion to come together as a community, an opportunity to become more knowledgeable about increasingly essential topics, and a chance to hear the words and opinions of some very talented and dedicated individuals.”

Dr. Daniel Drezner is associate professor of international politics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He is the author of All Politics is Global: Explaining International Regulatory Regimes, U.S. Trade Policy: Free Versus Fair and The Sanctions Paradox. Dr. Drezner has published articles in numerous scholarly journals as well as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy.

Dr. Drezner received his B.A. from Williams College and his Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University. He has provided expert commentary on U.S. foreign policy and global political economy for C-SPAN, CNN, CNN International, and ABC’s World News Tonight.

Spring 2007 Convocation events will commence as follows:

  • At 9:00 a.m. there will be a workshop Black Gold: Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, Titchener Hall, Room 101
  • 9:30 – 10: 30 a.m. there will be the choice of three workshops:

    *    Think Globally and Act Globally: Titchener Hall, Room 102

    *    American Foreign Policy at the Crossroads: Decker Building, Room 201

    *    Attacking the Problem of Quality Assurance: Applied Tech, Room 218

  • 11:00 a.m. Dr. Drezner Keynote Presentation: West Gymnasium

    *    1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Q&A with Dr. Drezner: Titchener Hall, Room 102

  • 12:30 – 1:20 p.m. there will be the choice of four workshops

    *    Economic Globalization: A Rising Tide Lifts Some Boats: Business Building, Room, 110.

    *    Global Panel on Environmental Concerns: Titchener Hall, Room 102

    *    Not So Beneficial “Bogeymen”: Titchener Hall, Room 101

    *    Origami: The Outsourcing of Peace: Student Center Lobby
