BCC Announces Recipients of First
Ever Presidential Honors Scholarship

-12 Local High School Students Comprising Top 10% of Class Will Attend BCC This Fall Under Scholarship-

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced that 12 students have registered for the fall 2007 semester as recipients of the first ever Presidential Honors Scholarship.

The Presidential Honors Scholarship provides high school seniors from throughout Broome County with tuition for the first year at BCC. To be eligible for the scholarship students must graduate in the top 10% of their class and apply for the scholarship. If students maintain a 3.00 GPA average, the scholarship will continue for their second year.

“The Presidential Honors Scholarship program is an additional resource for area students to receive a quality education at essentially no cost for the first two years,” said BCC President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “The Presidential Scholarships will allow Broome Community College to become the first choice for the best and brightest from many area high schools and we’re very proud of this emerging trend.”

The 2007 Presidential Honors Scholarship Awardees are:

The Presidential Scholarship is made possible through a $350,000 grant from the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation of Binghamton.  The grant will be paid over four years to establish an endowment for the scholarship and contribute to the start-up costs. The $350,000 grant is the largest that the Klee Foundation has ever made.

The Klee Foundation is the second organization to provide funds for the Presidential Honors Scholarship. The BCC Foundation received a $50,000 donation earlier from an individual who wished to remain anonymous.

Up to 25 scholarships will be presented to full-time students annually. Anyone interested in an application form or more information on the Presidential Honors Scholarship Program can contact BCC’s Office of Admissions at 778-5001.
