October 1, 2007 Broome Community College To Host Reception Honoring First -12 Local High School Students Comprising Top 10% of Class Will Attend BCC This Fall Under Scholarship- (TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced the College will host a reception honoring the first ever recipients of the Presidential Honors Scholarship at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2007 in the Klee Room, which is located in the Decker Building on campus. The Presidential Honors Scholarship provides high school seniors from throughout Broome County with tuition for the first year at BCC. To be eligible for the scholarship students must graduate in the top 10% of their class and apply for the scholarship. If students maintain a 3.00 GPA average, the scholarship will continue for their second year. “The Presidential Honors Scholarship program is an additional resource for area students to receive a quality education at essentially no cost for the first two years,” said BCC President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “The Presidential Scholarships will allow Broome Community College to become the first choice for the best and brightest from many area high schools and we’re very proud of this emerging trend. Tuesday’s event is designed to highlight and recognize these talented students.” The 2007 Presidential Honors Scholarship Awardees are: Zachary Beylo Chenango Valley High School Nicole Church Harpursville High School Lindsay Dunlap Binghamton High School Lottie Fox Windsor High School Marcus Hennekens Binghamton High School Patrick Joyce Binghamton High School Peter Kinney Johnson City High School Justin Knapp Harpursville High School Kyle Rittenburg Whitney Point High School Courtney Starzer Susquehanna Valley High School Kendra VanFossen Union Endicott High School Britney Zaczek Deposit High School The Presidential Scholarship is made possible through a $350,000 grant from the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation of Binghamton. The grant will be paid over four years to establish an endowment for the scholarship and contribute to the start-up costs. The $350,000 grant is the largest that the Klee Foundation has ever made. Representatives from the Klee Foundation will also be on hand at the reception. The Klee Foundation is the second organization to provide funds for the Presidential Honors Scholarship. The BCC Foundation received a $50,000 donation earlier from an individual who wished to remain anonymous. Up to 25 scholarships will be presented to full-time students annually.
