BCC To Host Transfer
Information Day Thursday Morning

-60 Colleges From 3 States Will Visit Campus Recruiting Students To 4 Year Schools-

(TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced that the College will host the annual transfer information day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the Baldwin Gym.

Representatives from 60 colleges from 3 states will be on campus to answer questions and showcase their respective institutions.

“Our students are sought after upon completion of their coursework at Broome Community College,” said Counselor Joe Spence. “Transfer information day provides an opportunity for students to learn about their educational options when they leave BCC. I often tell students that regardless of where they apply their application will end up in a file on someone’s desk. Transfer information day allows recruiters to put a name with a face and allows students the opportunity to show schools just how serious they are about attending the respective schools.”

Attending colleges and universities include Binghamton University, Syracuse University, Cornell University and Penn State University, to name a few. Approximately 400 students are expected to attend tomorrow’s event.

Based on data released earlier this year from the system office of the State University of New York (SUNY), BCC is first among SUNY Community Colleges in retention at the four-year level.

Eighty-two percent of BCC students who transfer to 4-year SUNY colleges are still enrolled at least one year later.    Among the 29 SUNY Community Colleges,   BCC has the highest retention rate based on a study of 4-year transfer students from the community college sector to the 4 year-sector.

“This achievement is significant for a number of reasons,” said BCC President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “Essentially this is a measure of the effectiveness of Broome Community College in preparing students for their junior and senior years at four year institutions. The primary reason this is significant is because study after study has illustrated that the majority of students who stay enrolled for at least one year tend to graduate eventually. Four year schools are very conscious of this factor, which is one of several reasons BCC students are so sought after.”
