PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE
Public Affairs Office Policy for Photographic Services

Early in the spring semester, we will send our student assistant to classrooms, labs, and other locations on campus to take photos to be used in upcoming BCC print and online publications. We are looking for fresh, new images that represent a good cross section of BCC¹s students, faculty, and academic programs, to replace stock photos that have been used in past publications. We are sensitive to the fact that class time is precious to both faculty and students. Photo shoots will be scheduled in advance with department heads/faculty in order to minimize disruption to classes.

Upon beginning each photo session, students will be asked to sign a photo release that authorizes BCC to use their image in whole or in part for the purpose of advertising the College. The photo release takes about 30 seconds to read and sign. The Public Affairs Office retains exclusive copyrights for reproductions, prints, electronic images, and use of those images.

In the past, students and faculty have requested copies of photos that we have taken. We regret that we cannot provide copies of images‹in print or electronically‹to anyone that we photograph, before the publication in which their image appears has been distributed to the target audience. We will, however, make every attempt to provide a copy of the final printed piece (brochure, poster, etc.) to the student, faculty or staff member. Please keep in mind that this could be months to a year after the photos are taken.
We cannot provide prints of photos that are brought in on disk or sent to us via email.

Our student assistant works part time and is heavily scheduled with photo assignments. If you occasionally see her at a Common Hour event, it is because she is on assignment to take photos for specific use by the Public Affairs Office. We regret that, for the most part, we are unable to honor requests to take photos at Common Hour or other events (awards ceremonies, lectures, club activities, sports events, etc.) due to the immense workload within the department. Of course, there will be some special events (Convocation, Commencement, etc.) that our assistant will attend, but all requests for photography for those events or for any other purpose must be submitted in writing to Rich David, Jesse Wells, or Michelle Perricone.
Please state name, department, date and time of event, and proposed use of photographs.

Any work requests outside of the student assistant¹s normal work hours will be handled at the student¹s discretion on a freelance contract basis. The Public Affairs Office is not responsible for any aspect of freelance photographic assignments.

If you have any questions regarding the policy for photographic services,
please call Michelle Perricone at 778-5244. Thank you!
