July 3, 2006 Media Advisory Emergency Responders Extend Stay As Members Of The NYS National Guard Join Hundreds Of Emergency Responders Housed At BCC Ice Center (TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced the College will also house members of the New York State National Guard at the Ice Center, in addition to approximately 100 other emergency personnel and rescue workers who have extended their stay in the Southern Tier to assist in local flood recovery efforts. Originally rescue workers were scheduled to depart yesterday, but due to the wide spread damage, have extended their stay for at least several more days. “While the campus was not impacted by the flooding, but many of our neighboring communities, as well as staff and students were affected,” said President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “BCC is committed to assisting in our region’s recovery efforts in any way possible and will house as many emergency responders as needed as this region recovers from flood damage. The College is also working with authorities on identifying additional ways we can assist in regional flood response efforts.” |
