Overview
As a community college we embrace life-long learning for our students, faculty, staff and greater community. Professional Development of our employees is concerned with the growth of the individual in her or his capacity as a professional within the college community. Mary Deane Sorcinelli, in Creating the Future of Faculty Development , describes faculty development as “some form of organized support to help faculty members develop as teachers, scholars, and citizens of their campuses, professions, and broader communities.”
The Professional Development Plan, done in conjunction with a mentoring committee, is part of the official Appointment and Promotion process that focuses on teaching effectiveness/work performance, personal professional development, and services to Department, Division, College and Community as noted in Article 40-C of the Faculty Association contract. The Faculty Association contract can be viewed on the BCC Intranet accessible through BCCToday.
In order to support employees in their professional development plan, the college makes available a variety of Professional Development opportunities to employees. These include:
The Teaching Resource Center's many ongoing professional development workshops and seminars (New Faculty Orientation, Teaching Squares, Multimedia Classroom Orientation, WebCT Intensive Training, Leadership Academy, etc).
Sabbatical Leave
College Budget (Departmental) Travel Funds
