Appointment and Promotion

Details about the process needed for continuing appointment and promotion are contained in the Faculty Contract (see Articles 35, 36 & 40). Individual questions should be directed to Greta Wingate, President of the Faculty Association. The Faculty Association contract can be viewed on the BCC Intranet accessible through BCCToday.

Additional information concerning Evaluation, Appointment and Promotion is contained within the Academic Affairs' public folders area of Microsoft Outlook (Pubic Folders/ All Public Folders/Academic Affairs/ Appointment and Promotion/) or can be found in the Academic Affairs area of BCC Outlook public folders.

A Professional Development Plan is required as part of the appointment process and will be developed in conjunction with your Professional Development Mentoring Committee (PDMC).

The plan focuses upon the following general areas:

Teaching Effectiveness/Work Performance
Professional Development
Academic Activities
Professional Activities


This plan will be reviewed and/or revised by the faculty member in conjunction with their department as they continue through the evaluation process leading to continuing appointment.

Ranked Faculty members seeking promotion are also required to have a completed three-year professional development plan before standing for promotion.

Faculty in the appointment and promotion process assemble a portfolio for the Promotion and Appointment Committee which includes their Professional Development Plan, Evaluations (self, chair/supervisor, peer and classroom), recommendation from their PDMC and supervisor, and documentation of their professional development efforts.

The timeline for the Appointment and Promotion process is defined in a schedule developed by Academic Affairs each year.
