For mobility - a digital audio/video device, such as an iPod is needed.
Other types of devices will work but some will require additional work to get podcasts to play correctly. MP3 players are digital audio devices that can play podcasts.

A digital recording device (computer, iPod, etc.) and a microphone designed to work with that device.
For video podcasts, you will need a digital camera as well. |
Apple's iPod has built-in software that allows for quick synchronization between the device and podcasts.
If you are using other types of devices, check the device's user guide to get more info about what it can play. Sometimes you need additional software, such as a "converter," to play the podcast.
