- APA Style This handout is from Purdue. A word of caution: APA comes in different versions and is subject to interpretation on many points. When in doubt, check with a librarian or your instructor.
- Bedford Handbook by Diana Hacker. Includes electronic writing exercises, grammar exercises, model papers, research and documentation online, a links library, and additional resources.
- MLA Guide Highlights from one of the major style guides, now available online. (But it's not the entire manual). Check Purdue's handout too. Bedfor Martin's MLA citation styles website might prove useful and user-friendly.
- Paradigm On-line Writing Assistant This online, interactive writer's guide and handbook is chock-full of valuable information and tips for writers of all levels. It covers an impressive range of topics: discovering, revising, thesis/support essays, informal essays, documenting sources, organizing, editing, exploratory essays, argumentative essays.
- Purdue University's OWL This is the "oldest and most comprehensive online writing center in existence," including over 200 pages of information (130+ downloadable handouts). You can find information on every stage of the writing process, from generating ideas to editing and proofreading. Nearly every OWL links to Purdue's OWL. A wonderful resource!
- Research & Documentation by Diana Hacker. How to find and document sources in humanities, social sciences, history and sciences. Incredibly useful!
- Strunk's Elements of Style A classic that "deserves regular consultation and review." This is the "Bible" of simple & direct style.
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Writing Center Includes many handouts, covering "Before You Write," "Developing Your Drafts," "Editing," "Academic Writing," and more.
- University of Wisconsin at Madison's Writing Center: Writer's Handbook An excellent array of information for writers, including "Writing about Literature," "Science Writing," "Writing a Review," "Grammar and Style: An Editing Checklist," and many more useful handouts. They feature "A Select List of Online Writing Centers." Be sure to visit this site!
- Writing in the Arts and Sciences at Marquette: A Sampling of Advice from Faculty: A very useful resource for faculty and students! This site includes a department-by-department reference guide. It provides clear guidelines for writing in specific disciplines, including biology, economics, math, philosophy and more. This reference guide "can help you plan your response to assignments and approach your professors with questions."

- BCC Library Online Services The BCC library offers valuable reference tools, including an online catalog, a listing of magazine holdings, the virtual reference desk and more.
- Ecola Newsstand Online text for literally hundreds of general interest newspapers from around the world, in English and many other languages. An excellent research resource, with a link to a similar page for business newspapers and magazines.
- Internet Public Library Features an extensive online literary criticism collection, as well as free searchable databases for literally hundreds of periodicals, often with full-text articles available at no charge.
- Librarians Index to the Internet Includes a multitude of categories in its index, which so far fits on one screen, without scrolling, so it's easy to review at a glance.
- Library of Congress Search the Library of Congress catalog, as well as hundreds of other library catalogs from around the US and the world.
- Research-It! A wide variety of research tools, in search engine format, nicely laid out on one page. Very user-friendly. Useful for basic research.
