BCC Obtains Grant
to Assist
L3 Communications

Broome Community College has been awarded $31,000 to assist L3 Communications, formerly known as Link Aviation Devices, Inc., with training designed to help the company develop leaders and supervisors and provide skills to enhance their employees current job performance.

By helping L3's management team and staff transition to their new owner and product line, the College hopes to assist L3 in job retention and job competence as the company grows and faces the opportunities and challenges of the commercial and defense industry in the area of simulation.

Training for L3 has commenced this summer and will continue into 2001. Most of the courses will be delivered on-site at L3 and will consist of workshops in Management and Supervisory Skills and technical training in areas such as C++ and Visual Basic.

The College has obtained this funding from the State University of New York Community College Workforce Development Training Grant Program. The legislative intent of this grant program is to "promote workforce development training courses to businesses and organizations to promote and encourage the location of new businesses in the state, and to create and retain employment opportunities in the state and local community."

In the recent past, Broome Community College has obtained funds from this program for Dovatron, Ametek Aerospace, U.S. Assemblies, and Health Now.
