Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement
All registered Broome Community College students are given a computer account.
By logging into your account, each person agrees to abide by and comply with ALL the Terms and Conditions set forth in this document and in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Each Lab computer and other supporting campus computers have an initial login and acceptance screen that states: " The Acceptable Use Policy for Broome Community College can be found at http://sunybroome.edu/services/its/use.html or in the Information Technology Guides in the Business Building, Room 121. Logging onto the BCC Network acknowledges that you understand and agree to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy."
Terms and Conditions for Use of Broome Community College Computer Account
Please read the following carefully prior to using your BCC Computer Account. This is a legally binding document.
Acceptance of Terms and Conditions
All terms and conditions as stated in this document are applicable to Broome Community College. These terms and conditions shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, and the United States of America. Violations that break state or federal laws are subject to prosecution.
A. Acceptable Use
The purpose of a computer account is to support educational initiatives and BCC campus services by providing access to unique resources and the opportunity for collaborative work. The use of your account must be in support of education and/or academic research. Transmission of any material in violation of any U.S. or state regulation is prohibited.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. Use for product advertisement, political lobbying and activities deemed illegal by law, are strictly prohibited.
SPECIFICALLY:
· You may NOT give your password to or offer your BCC Computer Account to anyone.
· You may NOT install any software on any BCC Computer.
· You may NOT use or play games via the network, including MUDs, or gaming servers.
· You may NOT break in, attempt to break, or use a BCC account that is not assigned to you.
· You may NOT create, share, or distribute computer viruses.
· You may NOT destroy another person’s data.
· You may NOT set up a server on the network or use the network for any unapproved project.
As a user of this community system, please send notice to administrator@sunybroome.edu if violations are observed. Report observed violations.
B. Privileges
The use of BCC/Computer Account is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use will result in the cancellation of those privileges.
C. Reliability
BCC makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing. BCC will not be responsible for any damages you suffer. This includes loss of data resulting from delays, non-deliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by its own negligence or your errors or omissions. Use of any information obtained via BCC is at your own risk. BCC specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.
Lab and Campus Computer Usage:
· Priority is given for course related use – No Gaming
· BCC students, faculty, and staff use ONLY
· No eating, drinking or tobacco use
· No personal software or files may be saved on the C drive. Use the Z drive or USB (thumb) drive for work/school files
· Printing:
- Academic use only
- Duplex is the default print format
· Be sure to log off after each use (to log off of a PC, click Start, Shut Down, and choose Log Off)
· Do not harass, annoy, or otherwise inconvenience other users with the following:
- Excessive E-Mails, spamming, flaming
- Noise (keep the noise level down)
- Behavior interferes with the ability to work or study.
- Behavior that creates intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment, including, but not limited to nude pictures and other pornography.
- Offensive Material, including, but not limited to child pornography.
Broome Community College does not protect anyone in violation of New York State, Penal code 156 - Computer Crimes.
