PRODUCTION NOTES
A kaleidoscope consists of an eyepiece, the object to be viewed, and a set of mirrors along its length that are angled toward each other. How the mirrors are angled determines the amount and complexity of the patterns one can see. Truly the 1960s was a decade of exceptional complexity and uniqueness. Our kaleidoscopic view includes as many angles as we could fit in one evening. The big challenge was in choosing which angles to highlight.
Our process was as rich and multi faceted as the decade itself. It took many twists and turns with brainstorming sessions, research, studying, writing, re-writing, trying things, throwing things out and throwing them back in again. (There are courses in many universities across the country putting this remarkable decade under a microscope.)
In the 1960s huge strides were made in the areas of music, politics, social justice and spiritual advancement alone. We felt that the aspect of student –led protest needed a major placement as it was unprecedented and changed the face of politics forever.
We hope you can enjoy the results of our work (and play) as much as we have benefited from the privilege of putting together our version of the “Swinging Sixties.”
