Dianna
Buckries (’04)
Designer
Newman Development Group
Before Dianna Buckries
(’04) entered BCC, she had been working in the design field
for a number of years, but she needed to know more of the technical
side of her job, For example, she wanted to be better at interpreting
the surveying notes from the field. “I realized that more
college education would do nothing but benefit my career.”
It wasn’t easy
for her to take on the technical courses as an older student.
“I encourage any young person to pursue a technical degree
in engineering science or math if they are at all interested.”
She adds that getting through the program has been very fulfilling
to her.
Dianna has had to fit
her program around her work schedule. As a designer for Newman
Development, she produces the “pretty picture” to
present to customers so that before they take the responsibility
of developing a site, they can present it to their own customers.
She has worked on local projects such as a remodel of the Johnson
City Police Department, including the courthouse, and the Shoppes
in Vestal next to Town Square Mall.
“BCC has been
very flexible to work around my schedule, “ she said. ‘I’ve
been very impressed with the instructors. A lot of them have had
a lot of experience in the field.”
She adds: ‘What
I am taking at BCC is preparing me for much more than what I am
doing now.”
