Scott Cirmo (’03)
Transportation Construction Inspector
New York State Department of Transportation

Scott Cirmo (’03) worked as a Transportation Construction Inspector for New York State DOT after he graduated from BCC. He is now in a civil engineering 4-year program at Rochester Institute of Technology.

In his TCI job this summer, he assured that contractors were following the specifications, standards and proposals of the job according to New York State guidelines. He would look over the specs in the morning to see what should be done, then write a report at the end of the day saying whether the contractors did or did not follow the specifications. “Some days I would be overseeing the paving and some days I might be watching the pipe installation,” Scott said.

Scott appreciated attending BCC with diverse classes, including women. ‘It was good to see different perspectives. Everybody had a lot of different ideas and it was your choice which one to take.”

The work he did with classmates working as a team and problem solving was particularly helpful to him, and he added, “The teamwork: that’s what makes BCC so great.”

Support for the development of this material was provided by a grant under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act Amendments of 1998 administered by the New York State Education Department.
