INTRODUCTION
Learn the arts of informing, instructing, and persuading through communications media. Communications students at BCC are exposed to a diverse education, with a clear understanding and global perspective of the role of communications media in society. Communications-related careers can be found in a variety of areas - from mass media, business and government, to education and healthcare.
The Communications and Media Arts program consists of a planned sequence
of college-level courses leading to the Associate in Science Degree. The
program emphasizes both theory and application of knowledge and skills
in photographic, film, video, audio, and print media areas.
Students transferring to upper division colleges will major in audio-visual technology, film and photography, technical communications, radio and TV broadcasting, journalism, graphic reproduction, acting and advertising. Graduates of the program have pursued further education at four-year colleges such as Brooks Institute, Emerson College, Fashion Institute of Technology, Ithaca College, Syracuse University, RIT, NYU, UCLA, USC, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Central Florida, as well as most SUNY schools. |

Graduates of the BCC Communication and Media Arts program are employed by large and small media companies locally and nationally. Some work in metropolitan and regional theaters, film, TV and radio, while others have found employment with newspapers, such as The Press and Sun-Bulletin, and in the entertainment industry, at Disney World and Universal Studios. Technical Production graduates are also currently employed by Citadel Communications, ClearChannel Communications, WBNG-TV, WIVT-TV, FOX-40, WSKG, WROC in Rochester; MTV, CBS, and PR firms in New York City; California film companies; CNN, CNBC, HSN, ESPN, and other network affiliates. Others start their own businesses in photographic services, DJ services, and video production. |
