About the Program

Thanks to BCC’s transfer agreement with Excelsior College, you can take most of the coursework toward your Bachelor’s degree at BCC, and build on your Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts, Business, Criminal Justice, Computer Studies, or others. Then you can transfer to Excelsior College to complete your Bachelor’s degree.

ABOUT EXCELSIOR COLLEGE

Excelsior College was founded as Regents College, in 1971, by the New York State Board of Regents. The name was changed to Excelsior College in 1998, after a change in charter allowed the college to operate as an independent, private college. Nearly 100,000 students from all over the world have earned Excelsior degrees.

Business Degree Programs
BCC’s transfer agreement with Excelsior College covers all of our Business and Business Information Technology programs. You can transfer up to 105 credits from BCC towards the Excelsior College BS in Business (Options include: General Business, Accounting, Finance, Global Business, Management of Human Resources, Marketing, Operations Management, Management Information Systems, and Risk Management and Insurance.)
Computer Studies Programs
Computer Studies transfer and non-transfer degree graduates can choose from Excelsior’s seven economically advantageous, on-line, Bachelor’s Degree options including: Information Technology, Security, Video Gaming, Multimedia Web, Network Management, Object-Oriented Programming, and Internet Technology E-Commerce. Many third-year courses can be completed here at BCC with faculty you already know.
Criminal Justice Programs
If you have earned your AAS degree in Criminal Justice-Police or the AS in Corrections at BCC, you can combine this with a third year of study at BCC and transfer to Excelsior College for the final 30 credits of upper-division coursework. You can earn your bachelors’ degree in criminal justice with an emphasis in Administration of Criminal Justice, Corrections or Law Enforcement and Public Safety. Your third year of study at BCC will consist of additional courses in psychology, sociology, history, criminal justice and electives in liberal arts.
Liberal Arts Programs
If you have earned an Associate’s degree, or have accumulated 60 or more credits but no degree, the BCC-to-Excelsior Bachelor’s degree transfer program may work for you. By combining general education courses and sequences in literature, psychology, history, mathematics, science or early childhood, you can take up to 90 credits or three fourths of the coursework toward your Bachelor’s degree at BCC. (Please note, this is not a Bachelor’s degree for teacher certification.)

Can I earn a Bachelor's degree from BCC?
No, BCC does not offer baccalaureate degrees. But our transfer agreement with Excelsior College makes it possible for you to complete the majority of the coursework at BCC, then transfer to Excelsior College. The Bachelor’s degree is awarded by Excelsior
College upon completion of all degree requirements
and payment of required matriculation and graduation fees.
Do I have go to Albany to take Excelsior College classes?
No. Excelsior College does not require students to attend classes on its campus. Classes from Excelsior College are available online from Excelsior and other regionally accredited colleges. An Excelsior College transfer counselor will help you plan coursework that leads toward your degree.
Do credits from other colleges transfer to Excelsior?
Excelsior College determines whether credits from other colleges fulfill degree requirements.
We will work with you to get your credits evaluated by Excelsior. BCC cannot advise students as to the transferability of college credit earned at other colleges.
Can I get financial aid for Excelsior College costs?

As of January 2008, Excelsior College began processing Federal Title IV Aid.  A variety of financial aid programs are available to Excelsior College students including scholarship programs, Veterans Administration education benefits, private education loan programs and several New York State financial aid programs for New York State residents.
