Phlebotomists
are trained to draw blood samples by venipuncture or skin
puncture for medical tests and blood donations, to perform
related technical procedures and to process the associated
clerical tasks.
Phlebotomists
need to communicate with patients to obtain information
for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears
and elicit cooperation. Phlebotomists must also adhere to
strict policies and safety precautions while treating the
patient with care.
The
Phlebotomy Certificate Program at Broome Community College
is designed to train students for immediate entry into hospitals,
clinics, physicians' offices, and other health care settings
as phlebotomists, and to offer additional specialized training
to practicing health care professionals who wish to upgrade
their skills and become more valuable to area employers. In
addition, it will prepare students to qualify to take national
certification examinations. |
