Dr. Michael Kinney, Chairperson of BCC Music Department (778-5323)
Dr. Kinney holds a Bachelor
of Arts in Music from Rowan University, a Master of Music in Composition
from Binghamton University and a Doctorate in Music Education from
Syracuse University. He is a published composer of numerous compositions,
and is active as a jazz musician, adjudicator, conductor and composer.
He performs jazz trumpet in numerous groups throughout the Southern
Tier of New York State and in Northern Pennsylvania and founded and
directs his fifteen piece big band, The Jazz Exchange.
Dr. Kinneys textbook, Mastering Music Fundamentals,
has been published by Schirmer Music (a division of Wadsworth publishers) and is being used extensively at colleges and universities across the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has been guest lecturer of Music, Education and Research
at SUNY Utica/Rome, Binghamton University, Utica College of Syracuse
University and SUNY at Cobleskill. |

Gerald Grahame
- BCC Choir Director (778-5326)
Known nation wide as an opera and concert singer, Gerald
Grahame is also a gifted voice teacher and choral conductor.
He began his musical education at SUNY Fredonia where he received
his Bachelor of Music degree followed by his Master of Music
degree from Binghamton University.
Mr. Grahame continued his musical training as an apprentice/artist
with the Chautauqua Opera Association and as a Resident Artist
under the auspices of the Tri-Cities Opera - a company with
which he has performed over 20 lead roles including Rodolfo
in La Boheme, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, the
title role in Faust, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor,
as well as the Interrogator in the world premier of Ezra Laderman's
Galileo Galilei. |
| When
Mr. Grahame debuted with the New York City Opera, he was the
recipient of that company's Rita and Herbert Z. Gold Debut Award.
He went on to sing other roles with that company including Count
Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Alfred in Die
Fledermaus, and Tamino in The Magical Flute under
the baton of Julius Rudel. Since then Mr. Grahame has appeared
with orchestras and opera companies throughout the country including
the Binghamton Symphony, The Syracuse Symphony, The Virginia
Symphony, The National Symphony under Eric Leinsdorf, as well
as the Syracuse Opera, the Tulsa Opera, the Cleveland Opera,
Opera/Omaha, the Lake George Opera Festival, and the Opera Company
of Boston with Sarah Caldwell conducting.
Currently Mr. Grahame teaches voice and other music courses
at Broome Community College where he also serves as college
Choir Director. He is also Artistic Director and performer
with MELLIPHONY - an a cappella vocal ensemble.
During the summer of 2001 Mr. Grahame was a voice teacher
and choral Clinician at the Dennis Keene Choral Festival in
Kent, Connecticut where he also was tenor soloist for the
Mozart Requiem Mass. He has performed regularly with
Tri-Cities Opera singing Pinkerton in their Madama Butterfly,
Alfred in Die Fledermaus, as well as Count Almaviva
in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
Recently Mr. Grahame appeared as tenor soloist with the Rochester
Oratorio Society in Messiah, and with the Catskill
Choral Society in the American premier of the Reicha Requiem.
In January he participated in the Carnegie Hall Choral Workshop
with Sir Nevelle Mariner Conducting Stabat Mater. |

Christopher
Weber - Director, Jazz Ensemble program (778-5094)
Christopher Weber has been an instrumental music instructor
for Union-Endicott Schools since 1979. Since 1997 Chris has
been directing the jazz ensemble program at Broome County
Community College as well.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education
from Keene State College, and a Masters degree in Music Education
from Ithaca College.He is active as a performer on trumpet
throughout New York State. |
| Chris
plays trumpet with a variety of musical organizations, including
Classy Brass, The Southern Tier Concert Band, The Southern Tier
Brass Quintet, The Mason Warrington Orchestra, The Binghamton
Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Sammy Kaye Orchestra. Chris
is active as a NYSSMA Adjudicator and guest conductor, and is
the Instrumental Jazz Editor for the NYSSMA publication the
School Music News. He is a former President of the New York
State Unit of The International Association Of Jazz Educators.
Chris has worked for the Local 380 American Federation of Musicians
as the Administrator for The Recording Industries Music Performance
Trust Funds since 1986. Besides teaching music and performing
music, Chris enjoys being an active member of the International
Brotherhood of Magicians. Chris and his wife Martha have made
their home in Owego, New York. |
