To remain successful in today's competitive marketplace, financial institutions have had to expand and diversify their services. This expansion has led to increased employment opportunities throughout the industries. If you are interested in a job with a bank, credit union, securities firm, insurance company, mortgage brokerage company, or other financial service firm, the BCC Financial Services degree is an excellent start. With the continued expansion of services, many financial institutions seek trained and licensed employees for their loan offices, investments departments and insurance departments. The Financial Services program at Broome Community College is made up of a planned sequence of college-level courses leading to the Associate in Applied Science degree. The degree is concerned with the theory and application of financial services skills, and prepares the student for immediate employment or transfer to any upper-division school upon graduation. The program may require more than two years to complete, depending upon a student's academic background. Schedules can be personalized to fit any need, including some courses taught in the BCC College-on-the-Weekend program. Students are prepared for employment in banks and other financial institutions. Selected courses provide prelicensing preparation for New York State or Federal licensing exams in Life, Accident, and Health Insurance, Real Estate for Salespersons and Securities Training (Series 6 and 63). |

The Financial Services area offers unlimited job and advancement opportunities to individuals possessing the right knowledge and skills. Jobs with financial institutions are numerous for the Broome Community College graduate. Few industries offer a wider variety of internal advancement opportunities. BCC graduates have secured jobs with area banks, credit unions, real estate companies, securities companies, insurance companies, and financial services firms. Visions Federal Credit Union, GHS Federal Credit Union, BSB Bank and Trust Co., Security Mutual Life Insurance Company, The Bay Ridge Group, M&T Trust Co., and many others have hired BCC graduates. Instead of seeking immediate employment, a graduate may choose to transfer immediately to a four-year college for an advanced degree. Popular transfer colleges include SUNY Oswego, SUNY Utica/Rome, and Medaille College (Where students can achieve a Certified Financial Planner designation). Students are encouraged to consult with advisors to help select colleges that meet their transfer and career goals. |
