April 21, 2008 BCC Campus Safety Director Elected President of the (TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY) Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today announced that Campus Safety Director Joe O’Connor has been elected President of the Community College Public Safety Administrators Association (CCPSAA). The Community College Public Safety Administrators Association is an organization that represents the campus safety and security departments of all community colleges in New York State. All 30 of New York’s community colleges belong to the CCPSAA. The annual election took place at the semi-annual joint State University Police and CCPSAA conference in Syracuse New York, on April 17, 2008. The President of the association provides leadership in directing the goals of the organization and representing the community college campus safety departments in Albany on various issues that confront campuses. Issues that are currently under discussion include Peace Officer status at community colleges, standardized practices for security in campus safety and training for security guards. “I am honored to have the opportunity to represent New York’s community college campus safety departments at the state level,” said O’Connor. “I look forward to working with the Vice Chancellor of University Police and campus safety professionals from other community colleges to continue addressing safety concerns.” “Joe O’Connor has done a tremendous amount of work to improve the safety and security at Broome Community College,” said BCC President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “He is an excellent choice to represent community college campus safety professionals in Albany and I am confident he will accomplish a great deal during his tenure.” O’Connor will serve in the capacity of President for one year. O’Connor has been at BCC and a member of the CCPSAA for four years. |
