What Services Does the Writing Center Offer?

  • Individual and Small-Group Writing Consultations in any subject.
  • Assistance with resumes, college application essays, and letters.
  • Handouts that can help you with your writing such as developing a thesis, writing a research paper, or citing sources.
  • Writing workshops.
  • Any project at any stage of the writing process.

Who are the Writing Tutors?

All of the BCC Writing Center professional tutors are enrolled in graduate programs and/or have graduate degrees (MAs, PhDs, etc); all our tutors participate in ongoing professional development.

We are skilled readers with whom you can have open, honest discussions about your writing.

How Can I Take Advantage of the Writing Center’s Services?

  • Schedule appointments. Call 778-5632 or 778-5038 or stop by the Writing Center (L-8) or the LAC ( L-6) to schedule appointments. Most sessions are 30 minutes. Limited online tutorial feedback is offered for students who are enrolled exclusively in online courses or for students who cannot come to the Writing Center during our business hours.
  • To insure availability of appointments, schedule several days in advance. If you see a writing tutor just before an assignment is due, you won't have enough time for revision.
  • Walk-ins are available only if there is an open slot or a cancellation.
  • Come prepared with anything you have regarding your assignment: the instructor's syllabus or assignment description, notes on the assignment, questions you have, and any writing you've done for the assignment.
  • No-shows: If you miss two appointments without giving us at least 1/2 hour prior notice, your Writing Center privileges will be suspended.
