The LAC provides all required training, supervision, and assessment of the program results.

It is used extensively in a mulititude of student and community patient education applications. The funds will replace the failed unit and allow educational presentations to continue. Grant Director: Martin Guzzi Grant Title: Perkins IV ME#3 BC Center Childcare Scholarships Agency: NY State Education Department Amount: $ 53,760 Abstract: The on-campus BC Center childcare facility usually receives childcare tuition support from SUNY but the funding is to be reduced by half for the 2010-2011 academic year. This means at least thirty-five Perkins IV students, all of whom are economically disadvantaged and over twenty who are single parents , will be losing the ability to have childcare for their children while they are on campus for lectures and labs. This effort proposes to offset the lost SUNY funding to at least maintain the level of childcare support. These students face many more obstacles than mosr others on campus but have a 10% higher Fall to Fall persistence than the general student population. Assessment will focus on verifying the persistence of students receiving assistance continues to be at historically high levels. Grant Period: 7/1/10 – 6/30/11

Grant Director: Jan Hertzog Title: Workforce Development Advanced Manufacturing Consortia Agency: SUNY Amount $38,240 Abstract: The goal of this project is to provide Advanced Manufacturing training for thirteen companies located in two separate workforce investment areas in the Southern Tier of New York State – the Broome/Tioga (B-T) and Chenango/Delaware/Otselic (CDO). This continuing program provides training for local trades people in installation of energy-saving improvements to local homes and businesses. Grant Period: 1/1/10 – 12/31/10 __________________________ Grant Director: Bina Paramasivaiah Title: Verizon Next Step Program Fall 2010 Agency: Subcontract to Verizon via Hudson Valley CC Amount $222,036 Abstract: Verizon Next Step program provides their local employees with an opportunity to continue their education with Verizon approved curricula at BCC as a mutually beneficial professional development activity. Funding provides for BCC administrative costs, employee travel, and tuition, fees & Books for attending Verizon employees. Grant Period: 1/1/10 – 12/31/10

Grant Period: 7/1/09 – 6/30/10 Grant Director: Kennie Leet Title: Alternative Energy Classroom Ahearn 10-11 Fund Agency: BCC Foundation Amount $20,000 Abstract: This funding from the Ahearn fund within the BCC Foundation will be used in the conversion of AT204 into the Alternative Energy Classroom. This award is leveraged with another grant from the BCC Foundation, originating with the Mee Foundation of the same amount, which will provide half of the total $40,000 to make the new classroom into a reality. A faculty member will mentor recent high school graduate nursing students via a special orientation program, providing for tutoring, ongoing faculty support system, exposure to students with similar backgrounds, and tips on personal organization strategies. These funds will support their tuition, living expenses, and civic responsibility components over the period of the grant. Students will live with local host families during the first six months of the program.
