Grant Title: Perkins IV  ME#3  BC Center Childcare Scholarships

Agency:  NY State Education Department             Amount: $ 53,760

Abstract:  The on-campus BC Center childcare facility usually receives childcare tuition support from SUNY but the funding is to be reduced by half for the 2010-2011 academic year.

This means at least thirty-five Perkins IV students, all of whom are economically disadvantaged and over twenty who are single parents , will be losing the ability to have childcare for their children while they are on campus for lectures and labs.  This effort proposes to offset the lost SUNY funding to at least maintain the level of childcare support.  These students face many more obstacles than mosr others on campus but have a 10% higher Fall to Fall persistence than the general student population. Assessment will focus on verifying the persistence of students receiving assistance continues to be at historically high levels.
