| Adding Section Text Comments in Banner for Online CoursesOnline courses at BCC are advertised through SLN as “Asynchronous” which indicates that there are no face-to-face (or synchronous) components included in the course. Since every course and instructional need is different, it sometimes becomes necessary to include synchronous components in an otherwise fully online course. These synchronous components may include proctored exams, lab, clinical or field experiences, face-to-face meetings or even online synchronous components that require participation at a specific time. Problems arise, however when a student registers for what they believe to be a fully asynchronous online course and finds themselves needing to be to be available for the synchronous component after the course has already begun. For this reason, required synchronous components in fully online courses must be communicated to the student prior to them registering for the course. This will be done using the Section Text Comments area in Banner. Click here to download a PDF that explains how to attach section text comments to a course section listed in Banner. Comments can be used to provide additional course section information that should be communicated to the student during registration such as online and blended course information that is specific to the section (e.g. This online class section requires proctored exams).
