What does the Y or B mean in the course number (for example: BIO110Y01)?

Courses that contain a Y designator in the course number are FULLY ONLINE courses and typically do not have a local meeting time or place.   But, some Y designated courses may require proctored exams or some other synchronous component (clinical experience, face to face meeting, etc).  If you have a question as to whether or not a Y designated course has a synchronous component, contact the course instructor or department.

Courses that contain a B designator are BLENDED or HYBRID courses.  This means the course meets online as well as face-to-face in a classroom, but it has less seat time than a traditional face-to-face class.

More information on the difference between the course designators for the types of courses offered at BCC can be found on the Types of Online Courses page.

Are all Y designated courses fully online? Will I have to come to campus?

Typically there are no required face-to-face or synchronous (specific online meeting time) components included in the fully online courses (Y designated courses) unless specified by the instructor/department. That is not to say that they are self-paced, as there will be class activities that you need to participate in each week and due dates that you must meet.  Contact the instructor or department if you have any questions about meeting time/place requirements for fully online or blended courses.
