Visa Information

The NY Italian Consulate only accepts applications from residents of the States of New York, Connecticut and the following New Jersey Counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, Warren. Students enrolled full-time at a University located in the NY jurisdiction meet the residence requirement.

Airline Restriction

It is important to pay attention to luggage size and weight restrictions when packing for an overseas trip. If your luggage is over the weight limit, you will either have to throw some things away or pay a fee for the extra weight.

Consult the web page of the airline you are traveling with for specific luggage restrictions. Also, please be advised of the often changing permitted and prohibited items for carryon luggage.

Avoid Over Packing

Keep in mind that there will be stores in the countries you are traveling to. Therefore, if you forget something, you can certainly buy it when you get to your destination. Try to pack comfortable clothes and shoes for sightseeing. Be aware that many cathedrals in Europe have dress codes (i.e. men- no shorts, women- must cover their shoulders). If possible, it is recommended that you pack old towels (if they are not included in your housing accommodations) and then throw them away before you return to the United States. This will open up some space in your suitcase for souvenirs.

Converters/ Adaptors

If you plan to use curling irons, hair dryers, alarm clocks, laptops, etc. overseas, you will need a converter (which converts the electricity current) and an adaptor (which will fit in the foreign outlet). These can be found in the travel sections of most department stores.

Laptops

It is not necessary to bring your laptop with you on your semester abroad. Many, if not all, of the schools are equipped with computer labs for students to use for email and writing papers. Affordable Internet cafes are also found throughout most international cities. At such cafes, students can email, IM, and even upload pictures to the Internet to instantly share their experiences with friends and family.

Cell Phones

International cell phones are becoming more and more affordable. They are also a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, near and far. To learn more about international cell phone service visit: www.piccellwireless.com.
