Welcome to the Nursing Program at SUNY Broome Community College. My name is Jennifer Houghtalen and I serve as the interim department chairman as well as a faculty member. The nursing department faculty are dedicated registered nurses. All full-time permanent faculty members have a minimum of Master's degree in nursing.
Nursing is an exciting career with a variety of employment opportunities. We have clinical affiliations with many types of health care facilities, including hospitals, long-term care, home health, and health clinics.
Our goal as a department is to prepare students for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to provide the technical basis for employment, but also to mold graduates into caring, professional nurses who understand the value, importance, and confidentiality, and the vital role they play in contributing to quality patient care. The program's curriculum is designed to prepare students to practice safely in modern health care environments. Licensure in nursing in New York State is granted through the New York State Education Department (NYSED). In order to be eligible for licensure, graduates must meet the criteria for good moral character as determined by the NYSED.
