  • 5/1/2008 - Progress Report

The Banner Finance, Human Resources, Project and Data Standards teams have been working hard to implement Banner. A lot has been accomplished, but there is still much to do.

The Banner Finance Core Team has been building and adjusting the Cjart of Accounts to meet BCC's needs. They have also been working to migrate vendor and Fixed Asset information from PLUS to Banner as well as to set up all of the associated validation tables (similar to our current DBD's in PLUS). The team has built the purchasing portion of the Finance module, and is working to create end user training materials for just-in-time delivery in late July and August 2008. They have been documenting the new procedures for purchasing and the day-to-day processing in the Finance Offices. End user security is being implemented, reports are being created, and budgets are being loaded. Interfaces from PLUS Student, Financial Aid, and Human Resources to Banner Finance are being built for the transition period. All of this will be tested and retested over the Summer. Congratulate your Finance Core Team colleagues on their hard work, they are doing a great job!

The Banner Human Resources Team is hard at work building the Banner HR module. They have been working on creating employee records, job records, payroll, benefits, deductions...all of those things that make us employees and produce our paychecks. They will also soon be working on some of the same issues that the Finance team is currently dealing with, such as interfaces, crosswalks, migration of data, end-user training, documentation, etc. Again, congratulate your Human Resources Core Team colleagues on all of their hard work so far.

The Banner Project & Data Standards teams have been meeting regularly and dealing with some difficult questions that affect multiple departments, including how we will store shared data and who will be the owner (responsible) for the maintenance of that data. As one Core Team's decision can positively or negatively effect other departments on campus, this is a very important part of the process.

We are a team, and we will be successful as a team. Encourage your colleagues to continue their great work!

  • 4/30/2008 - Leadership Academy Team Completes "Banner Introduction" Project

Upon suggestion by Grant Newton, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, a team from the 2008 BCC Leadership Academy took on the task of introducing the campus community to Banner. They chose to accomplish this task by providing 5 sessions at varying times where employees could attend and see a bit about Banner for themselves. These sessions proved very successful, and resulted in a lot of positive feedback, as well as some great questions. All questions will be answered in the new FAQ section of this website.

If you missed the session and would still like to view it, a video version will be available here shortly.

If you have questions about the Banner project, please feel free to email Scot Beekman, Banner Project Manager.
  • 1/25/2008 - Progress Report

The Banner Teams are making great strides in the Banner Implementation process. In addition to attending training sessions throughout the Fall 2007 semester, the Finance Core Team has been hard at work creating the Chart of Accounts. The COA will be loaded into Banner next week, after which we can begin testing and training for the Finance system on BCC data. This is a huge milestone, and the base for all other Banner work to move forward. Congratulations to the Finance Core Team for accomplishing this task ahead of schedule and seeting the stage for the rest of the implementation. On Wednestday February 6, 2008 the Human Resouces Core Team will attend their kick-off and first training session. That means we will now be implementing two major components of the Banner system at the same time. One year from now one half of the Banner system will be live! Let's keep up the good work and keep moving forward. We will get there together!

  • 9/12/2007 - BANNER Project Kicked Off

With the support of Executive Council, the BCC Banner information system migration project was successfully kicked off on September 11, 2007. Members from various campus departments were in attendance to learn about the overall project and see the Banner product at work. Training has commenced for technical staff and for the Banner finance and human resources teams.

If your department, group or committee would like to learn more about Banner and the implementation process, please contact Scot Beekman via email or at ext. 5255 to schedule a discussion.

  • 9/1/2007 - BCC begins BANNER implementation

Banner is the world’s most widely used collegiate administrative suite of student, financial aid, finance, and human resources information systems. More than 900 institutions worldwide rely on Banner to help them achieve measurable improvements in services for faculty, staff, and students.

Scot Beekman has been selected as our Banner Project Manager and is now located in room B-134. He, along with John Petkash, will lead our implementation efforts. A Banner project kick off will occur this month to begin the implementation of the Banner finance system which is scheduled to “go live” to begin our 08-09 fiscal year in September 2009.
