Mathematics General Education Requirement Notice
Upon graduation from a four-year SUNY school, students are
required to be mathematically prepared to take a pre-calculus level course. To ensure
this level of preparation the State Education Department has developed the
following plan.
- If you
successfully completed a pre-calculus course in high school, then you may,
but need not, take another Mathematics course in college unless it is
required for your major.
- If you
passed the Course 3 Regents exam or the Math B exam with a score of 85 or
higher, then you may, but need not, take another Mathematics course in
college unless it is required for your major.
- If you
did not successfully meet either of the first two criteria in high school,
then you must complete a course sanctioned by the State Education
Department before you can get your four-year degree.
The following courses and sequences at BCC have been
approved as satisfying the General Education Requirement:
MAT115/MAT116-- Mathematical for General Education I,II
MAT119/MAT120 -- Mathematics for Elementary Education I,II

MAT136 -- College Algebra and Trigonometry
