Letter from the Director

Welcome to our website. I hope that the information provided here will assist you in your decision to study abroad. Broome Community College (BCC) is a 2-year unit of the State University of New York (SUNY), the largest integrated public university in the U.S.A.

We have been running overseas programs since 1973 and each year over 250 students from all over the world enroll in our programs. About half of our semester students come from other units of the SUNY system with the largest number coming from the university centers at Binghamton, Albany and Buffalo. Another large group comes to us through the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS), of which Broome is a founding member.

Credits earned abroad are certified by SUNY, will be recorded on an official BCC transcript, and are fully transferable. If students prefer, a SUNY transcript supplement or a transcript directly from the overseas institution can be provided. Students may use their financial aid packages for their semester abroad.

Studying overseas should be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You will get the most out of this experience if you pay attention to the following:

  • Choose a program offered by an accredited U.S. college so that your credits will be posted on an official transcript and will be easily transferable.
  • Be concerned about health and safety issues while you are abroad.
  • Read the material that we send you. Our written material contains important information on the nature of the academic program offered, payment and refund policies, and pre-departure information.
  • Learn something about the country you are going to before you arrive.

We believe that BCC provides high quality academic programs at a reasonable price. In many cases the programs we offer are the same as those offered by private universities but at a lower price since our tuition and fees are lower. If you would like us to send you more information on any of our programs, please fill out a request form. Please contact Mary Hills, our Study Abroad Coordinator, at 607-778-5030 or by e-mail at hills_m@sunybroome.edu. with any questions regarding exact program costs and dates.

Best wishes,

Dr. Alberto Miller
Director of International Education
